Hit and run accidents can be devastating to a family. Maurice Freeman, 16, was walking to school last October 11 when he was hit by a car while crossing Georgia Highway 54 in Clayton County. The driver didn’t stop, and police have not solved the case.

Instead of attending high school with his peers, Maurice undergoes physical therapy to repair the damage to his body. The car’s impact left him with a broken skull, back, tailbone, and pelvis. He also suffered a lacerated kidney and blood around his brain. He recently was diagnosed with a dangerous growth on his spine.

Although he is now walking with only one crutch, and has made an amazing recovery, the family is still overwhelmed with medical bills. Maurice is trying to work at home so he can finish high school with his peers. His mother, Erica Browning, hopes a witness to the accident will come forward.

The accident occurred between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m., October 11, on Ga. 54 between the Quick Trip at Tara Boulevard and Mundy’s Mill High School. If you have any information, please call the Clayton County police at 770-473-3983 and ask for Officer John Flaherty.

At Krause Golomb & Witcher LLC we have seen what devastating accidents can do to a family. We are uniquely qualified to help, and can often find several sources of monetary recovery for families. Give us a call today for a free consultation.

In Gwinnett County last Saturday night, a dispute over a football game turned deadly, and 30-year-old Corey Adams was shot outside an Applebees.

Adams and a friend were at the Applebees on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth and were cheering on the San Francisco 49ers, when a fan of the New Orleans Saints became offended and they got into an argument. The Saints fan appeared belligerent and was seen taking a pill before he left the restaurant.

The shooter, identified by Gwinnett County police as Donald Ayro, left the restaurant. More than an hour later, around 6:30 p.m., Adams left the restaurant. As he was getting into his car, Adams was shot by Ayro. The shot only grazed the top of his head. Adams’ friend Chris Middleton was shot in the chest, and is in critical condition. Middleton had recently moved back to Atlanta from Los Angeles.

Adams later identified the shooter. Ayro was charged with aggravated assault and several weapons charges.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of a crime while on public property, there are several ways to obtain a monetary recovery. The experienced attorneys at Krause Golomb & Witcher LLC can help you to get the maximum amount. Call today for a free consultation.

Good news for a change. Not since U.S. President Harry S. Truman unveiled his Fair Deal program and the first television western, Hopalong Cassidy, aired on NBC have traffic fatalities been lower than they were in 2010.

An April 2011 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) report indicates that the number of traffic-related fatalities in 2010 was the lowest since 1949. There are several theories why traffic deaths were so low: increased education about the dangers of drunk driving, improved road design, and better and more safely designed automobiles.

While these numbers are encouraging, there are still many unnecessary deaths caused as a result of automobile collisions. If you or anyone you know are injured as a result of the negligence of another driver, please call us for a free consultation.

The lawsuit also alleged that Reneham’s family “continuously” served Byram, Reneham, and their friends alcohol leading up to the accident.

Sometimes pharmacists mix-up over-the-counter medicines with prescription medicines.

The FDA warns of just such a problem at the Novartis AG manufacturing plant in Nebraska, according to the Wall Street Journal from January 10, 2012. Pharmacy errors are all too common. A diabetic is prescribed heart a medication. Birth control pills are replaced with anti-anxiety medication. These types of errors can be deadly.

In one case we handled, a prescription error resulted in our clients’ colliding into a stationary object and in a three-day hospital stay. The problem was due to a pharmacist providing the wrong medication to our client.

When the mix-up happens at a drug manufacturing plant it compounds the problems.

Some in the industry have attempted to reduce the number of pharmacy errors by describing what the pill looks like on the pharmacy insert. This is a good idea. One should also check that the number of pills corresponds to the number of pills specified on the label. In the event of any confusion, you should immediately contact your pharmacist and healthcare provider.

In the event that you were injured due to a pharmacy mix-up, please contact the attorneys at Krause Golomb & Witcher LLC.

The shootings happened at Hutcheson Medical Center, about 10 miles from the Tennessee border in Oglethorpe, Georgia.

The two victims were identified as 56-year-old Mary Benson of Rossville Georgia and her mother, 76-year-old Charlotte Johnson of Chattanooga. The two women were visiting a relative who was in the intensive care unit of the hospital. The shooter told the women “they’d be sorry” before pulling a handgun from his pocket and fatally firing.

The shooter, identified as James Benson, was separated from his wife. He was a security guard. He was licensed to carry a firearm, and had no criminal history. He had been seen at the hospital earlier in the week arguing with his wife, but was not felt to be a threat.

In response to the shooting the hospital added extra unarmed security guards.

The incident took place Sunday evening while the child was crossing the intersection of Northside Drive and Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. The driver fled the scene but was apprehended not far from the location where the five-year-old was hit. The driver was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

Georgia law permits drunk driving injury victims to recover “punitive” damages in accidents caused by drunk drivers.

At Krause Golomb & Witcher LLC, we aggressively pursue drunk drivers. In these cases, insurance companies can be persuaded to offer larger settlements because they know juries are willing to give verdicts higher than in a typical case. We work hard to show insurance companies and juries that driving drunk merits severe punishment.
